I have been having a blast with the garden chores and my rabbit re-breeding project. So much fun that I let a few more important things slide.
I am taking a needed break from the blog to help out with some revamping of the homeschool. A few years back we came into a little extra change and decided that the best thing to do with it was to purchase a complete homeschooling set for all our children. We had been homeschooling for years and had used every style imaginable. Usually picking up a few new eclectic items whenever a new seminar came around. Sound familiar?
We finally decided on a mix of two that fits our needs. We use Rod and Staff for most everything because we like the style and content of the material and they don't use any idolatry ( pictures of Christ) in the readers or other curriculum as most of my Reformed brothers do in theirs. And we use Christian Liberty Press for all of our basic History, geography and some theology/doctrine with a little mix of other stuff like Christ-Centered Phonics ( Because they're the BEST). It was really hard to find a complete 'reformed' set that had modest dress. So, we have had to make the best of it. Like I am sure many of you have. For us, it is a battle of trying to develop an encompassing, omnibus style of education and worldview, without sacrificing simplicity and purity to high minded academics. We are thankful that the Lord has provided for each of our children every reader, test, study manual, etc., they will need through 'highschool' level and beyond. Now the battle is implementing it all consistently and effectively.
That is where my break comes in. I have to rework some of the scheduling and 'flow' of daily activities. I also need to finish my syllabus that I started months ago. Seems so easy to forget what is important.
A few days should do it.
Until then..

Bob,
First of all, thanks for adding me to your blogroll, even though I am not paedo (at least, not yet - there are so many of you praying, I may as well give in...).
Secondly, I was wandering if you could blog a little about the role you take in teaching the kids. It would be helpful to us pioneer-first-generation homeschool parents!
Thirdly, thanks for mentioning the pictures of Christ. I had never considered the issue until last year. And, since then we have had to get rid of some things (and there are more yet to toss).
Thanks for telling us what you use and why... You have a practical helpful blog here - and I enjoy stopping in! Everything from cabbage to curriculum!
Bethany,
I took to long adding your site. I have been trying to figure out how to configure the blog a little better, but haven't had time to do the tutorials. On the issue of paedo vs. creedo, I think that it is an important issue but, not one that should preclude fellowship among orthodox christians who are sincere in searching out God's will. We are glad to count you a sister in Christ. And Brother Sido, too!
I plan on doing some posting on child-rearing connected to a small pamphlet that my Elders have asked for and it will include a section on the education of children. This is a subject that is all too often neglected, even in otherwise, solid families. Mom has a lot on her plate and Dad is needed badly.
I am glad that the mention of pictures was beneficial. I always had trouble rectifying that one with the practice of most churches today. Since God did not give us a detailed picture of the physical appearance of Christ, it seems wrong to picture Him as we do today. Couple that with the warnings against idolatry and you have an age- old argument that many disagree on. One thing that seems to be clear about Christ, is that He was not pleasant to look upon, in human terms.
Thanks for the encouragement! I am trying to find my way out here as I figure out the best way to interact with the various groups of my peers. I intended to blog about homesteading but as a christian, the theology stuff just can't be separated. Not all my Agrarian friends are happy with the 'religious' stuff, but we will keep trying...
I should be posting again next week sometime. We are making slooow progress on our restructuring of the homeschool.
